By: FitNRG.net

The basic principle behind weight lifting and strength training is progressive increase in the resistance applied to your exercises, forcing your muscles to adapt and grow. At first, strength and muscle gains are always relatively fast for beginners; however, as you progress with time and experience, the gains slows down, and eventually seems to stop, and you hit the dreaded plateau.

Our bodies are amazingly adaptive organisms. Its primary goal and purpose is survival, and that is it. It could care less how lean you want to get, or how strong you want to be – survival is the only thing it cares about. When your body faces new stimulus, such as having to perform three heavy set of squats for 6 reps every monday at 6pm – it instinctively knows, and adapts to that training stimulus.

There are several ways to get around this and deal with this problem. One of the key things to do is to change your training frequency.

One of the biggest mistakes many people make is to follow the exact same routine, exercises, training schedule and frequency day in and day out. Your body quickly picks up on your consistent training frequency and training pattern and adapts and adjusts accordingly.

Weightlifting Strength Training Frequency

As you become more advanced and get increasingly stronger, the level of physical stress and exertion increases accordingly. Think of it like this. As a beginner, you might do something like squatting 3 sets of 150lbs for 10 reps. But as you advance and get stronger, you place much higher demands on your muscles and body by using much heavier weights, say doings the same squats for 3 sets, but for only 6 reps with 300lbs.

Now look at the two training sessions and compare the difference in the amount of effort required to complete 3 sets of 150lb squats vs 3 sets of 300lb squats. The difference is massive, and the amount of additional stress your body endures is far greater. With increased workout load and intensity, you must REDUCE your strength training frequency.

This may be somewhat a difficult idea to accept, especially when many people are afraid of taking prolonged rest periods – such as taking one or two full weeks off from training. However, these types of full rest periods will only do your body good, allowing it for a complete recovery. You may also consider reducing the overall training frequency of your strength training sessions. For example, if you previously worked your legs once a week, say on mondays, reduce your training frequency a bit – instead of working your legs once every 7 days, try training it once every 8 days, 9, 10, 11 days or longer.

Learn to train smart and get your body to function at its peak to develop pure strength and muscle.

Major depression is the No.1 psychological (mental) disorder in the western world. It is growing in all age groups with up to 20% of people experiencing it. At the rate of increase by 2020 it will be the 2nd most disabling condition in the world. Today over 17 million people in the US, which includes 13% of teenagers and 3% of children under thirteen, are currently on Prozac, the second most commonly prescribed drug.

Depression is a huge problem and the burden on society is incredible with an estimated cost in the US alone of more than $40 billion dollars per year, and an annual loss of two hundred million work hours. The human cost is high too with suicide being the 8th leading cause of death.

Depression is a universally understood condition of sadness and low spirits, life has lost its luster and doom and gloom prevails. We all experience some sadness as part of weathering life’s misfortunes and have periods of being down in the dumps. Most people normally recover from such low points and carry on, however, some people don’t recover from life’s setbacks.

It is only recently that research has begun to uncover the link and the importance between physical activity and mental health with inactive or sedentary people having twice the risk of becoming depressed. We all know that exercising routinely provides a number of important benefits like promoting cardiovascular (heart/lung) health, lowering blood pressure, keeping bones strong, improving muscle tone and strength, and of course, a proper exercise regimen can energize you and help reduce excess body fat.

But did you know that exercise has yet another benefit that can make your life a whole lot better? Several hundred studies have analyzed the effect of exercise on depression and found that exercise can increase self-esteem, improve mood, reduce anxiety levels, increase the ability to handle stress, and improve sleep patterns.

A proper exercise program that includes strength training exercise provides similar improvements in depression as anti-depressant medications but without negative side effects. Strength training can be very therapeutic providing a very useful treatment for depression. Newly released studies show that after a strength training session, endorphin levels (feel good hormones) are increased by more than 60 percent leaving you feeling rejuvenated and even euphoric, keeping your mind trouble-free.

When people suffering from depression participate in strength training programs, their self-confidence and self-esteem improve, which has a strong impact on their overall quality of life If you have never exercised before, learning an exercise program can be considered a new skill. Many people experience a mood boost and increased energy levels when they’ve mastered a new skill or talent. This can provide a sense of accomplishment and achievement which counters the effect of depression.

Even a modest exercise program of 30 minutes a day, three days a week is an effective weapon for combating depression and the benefits of such a program are likely to be permanent for individuals who adopt exercise as a regular, ongoing life activity.

Just as you get more energy exercising you also get happier, have a better outlook on life, have more vitality and enjoy life more. You will feel good and have an effective weapon to fight the blues.

You are a busy executive that has been driving your professional career for years. You are a successful high performer living the incredible pace of the corporate life with its never ending time demands. Without enough hours in the day you have managed to juggle the highly stressful grind, long days, late hours and restaurant meals while trying to meet family obligations. This fast pace can make it difficult for you to fully realize your personal health and fitness potential. Yet having high levels of health, strength and stamina are critical components to achieving professional success.

How will you keep this warp speed pace up? How will you maintain a necessary balance in life to continue to be able achieve the personal performance your career, and you demand? An executive needs to be mentally sharp and agile in order to make good decisions quickly, all day long. Could you be doomed to be overweight, stressed out. ..and heading for health problems? So what then is the solution for the boardroom battlers?

Physical training that’s what! Conditioning the body to a level that supports the mind giving it the opportunity to do what it needs to do. And not with just any old exercise, but intense strength training in the right doses at the right time with the right frequency.

Beyond slimmer waistlines and firm biceps, it’s well documented that optimal strength levels will increase everything from energy and stamina, to mood and a general sense of well-being. If you don’t have the strength and fitness to endure long days, arduous meetings and the typical daily grind, you will not be able to go the distance…whether that means closing the deal or making the sale.

When we are fatigued, we make poor decisions. Athletes don’t just train so that they start their game in their best shape. They condition themselves so that in the last quarter of their game when others are falling by the wayside they are able to make good and fast decisions because their bodies and minds are still fresh.

By now you have learned to succeed by working smarter, not harder than the rest. No matter how much money you have made or how much success you achieve in life, what use is that if your life is cut short by some dreaded life threatening disease or illness.

After all the sacrifices you have made to get where you are today and the future goals you have for an active retirement can you afford not to take care of your most precious possession – your health.

If you don’t have as much energy and stamina as you would like, perhaps increasing the intensity of your current exercise routine (or starting a new one) will give you the edge you need to help you perform at your peak.

Take the time to learn the skill of strength training exercise; your local gym would be the best place to start. Get proper instruction so you can get the best possible start and begin obtaining results right away. With the right workout program you will be able to keep functioning like someone half your age while maintaining the competitive edge in the business world.

Remember a happy, healthy life is what you’re here for. Being a great leader comes an important second. So take the time to lead a healthful lifestyle to protect what you have achieved and ensure you will enjoy the fruits of all you have earned. Whether it is 5 or 25 years down the road make sure you will be ready.

One of the main things you need to strive for when you are at the gym is proportionality. Many times I will see guys walking around with a chest and arms that are huge, but they wear sweat pants»

One of the main things you need to strive for when you are at the gym is proportionality. Many times I will see guys walking around with a chest and arms that are huge, but they wear sweat pants because they don’t want you to see how they ignore their leg workouts. Give me a break with that stuff; you need to work out so your body is a matching set. A major factor of your Strength Training Routine or bodybuilding routine some may say.

There are questions about the best way to accomplish this goal. Nearly everyone you see has some part that is out of proportion. Even some of the top dogs in the business have aspects that are slightly out of proportion. The trick to getting your body into top shape is staying with a strategic steady schedule. It’s not really a trick, but more like common sense, but you wouldn’t think so if you look around the gym.

There are a few different ways to accomplish this goal, but I think that I have found the best way. Dividing your time between your different parts is a must. When I am talking about ‘different parts’ I am meaning one day you concentrate on chest, one day legs, etc. Rotation of exercise is also key factor to keeping your body guessing at what is coming up next don’t screw up your Strength Training Routine by not doing this. For example, if you are doing bicep exercises you don’t want to do hammer curls day after day and think that your biceps are going to have the best shape ever!

You have to mix it up in various fashions. To start with, staying with the same example, hammer curls are a compound exercise, involving many more muscles than just the bicep. So, you want to do some isolation exercises to shock the muscle; jump on the preacher curls, or crank up the weight or turn your sets upside down. There are lots of ways to get that shock to your system that is going to promote maximum growth and sculpt the muscle the way you want it to be.

That sort of shock to your muscles promotes better development of the muscles, but an even bigger part of the proportionality is making sure your body parts match. Do you have one bicep bigger than the other? Do you have the toothpick legs? Be honest with yourself. If you think other people are so struck with your arms that they don’t notice your legs (or your long sweat pants in the middle of summer) you are wrong. The greatest structures on earth have the best foundations. Your legs are your foundation; you need to make them strong and solid, like the base of a pyramid.

Give yourself an honest assessment and have a friend critique you. Tell them to be brutally honest and then don’t get all defensive. At least don’t let them know you are unhappy about what they say. They are doing you a favor, so be a man about it and thank them.

The thing I am really trying to emphasize here is that you are making the best you; if you are doing the right things at the gym. If you are not doing the right things, hey, if you are satisfied with looking out of balance, maybe you should find another discipline than bodybuilding. This sport is about building the perfect body. Don’t get me wrong, all bodies aren’t going to look the same. Your perfect body won’t look exactly like anyone else’s, but it will be the right one for you, if you pay attention to your proportions and make them right.

Next time you are in the gym take a look around and I am sure you will agree; the best physiques are proportional.

If you are carrying a few extra kilos of excess body fat around your belly …love handles …the spare tire…a beer gut… potbelly, call it what you will – you are not alone. Although the number of overweight people has increased dramatically worldwide in recent years, this is one case where following the crowd is not the best idea because extra weight especially if it is stored around the belly can be downright risky.

While being overweight can have negative effects on your health, gaining weight around the abdomen does more harm than simply making your waistband too tight. Health risks such as developing diabetes, heart disease, various forms of cancer and other degenerative diseases increases.

Many people put on more belly fat as they get older starting to notice their increasing waistline in their 30’s and 40’s and gradually putting on more kilos as the years go by. For many, the eating and exercise habits that kept them slim in their youth are just not enough to keep the weight off as they get older. Add to this the fact that we tend to become less active and more sedentary as the years go by, and you can see why the flab starts to gather around your waist.

Many people assume that as they get older their “middle-age spread” is due to the fact that their metabolism has slowed down. If you think you have put on excess body fat for this reason you may be only half right. It could well be you who has slowed down.

The major cause of your metabolism meltdown is muscle loss. Your metabolism is the rate your body burns fuel – energy – or calories your body uses. It is how fast your motor runs! One of the main factors that determine this daily calorie burn is the amount of muscle tissue you have. We used to think that aging was the cause of muscle loss but we now know that is living a sedentary or inactive lifestyle that is the culprit with an adult losing between 300-500 grams per year of precious muscle tissue.

Both our physical appearance and our physical performance can be improved by muscle gain or hampered by muscle loss. Much of the loss of muscle tissue as we age is preventable, and fortunately, it is possible to recover much of the muscle that has been lost. A proper exercise program is the solution to this problem with strength training being the key component

Only a regular strength training program can maintain (or increase) muscle tissue to shrink a spreading waist. The more muscle tissue you have, the more calories you use round the clock and the more efficient and effective your metabolism. That not only helps you lose excess body fat, it helps you keep the weight off.

The muscle tissue you will gain will not only speed up your sluggish metabolism, it looks better – it’s firmer, smoother, and more compact than saggy, flabby fat tissue giving you a much more youthful appearance.

Aerobic exercise (walking, cycling, jogging etc) even though it’s extremely beneficial for the cardiovascular (heart / lung) system does not prevent the wasting away of muscle tissue from disuse.

Stop exercising again and your body will turn to flab, your energy levels will drop, your muscle tissue will shrink away along with your ability to burn calories, and your overall sense of wellbeing will drain away. It all comes down to this – your metabolism won’t slow down if you don’t.

It is possible to spend thousands of dollars to have the signs of time erased from our bodies. A surgery to lift that, tuck this, a cream to do this, a pill to do that – our modern society is obsessed with youth. People still search for a magic youth potion and they will pay almost anything for a product that promises to turn back the clock.

The real Fountain of Youth is not found in facelifts, facial creams, botox or liposuction. Although these may create a temporary visual illusion of youth, underneath it is still the same old body.

However, the real fountain of youth may be closer and cost a lot less than you think.

There is something that we can all do that really does make us more “youthful.” It’s called vigorous exercise. It won’t hold off aging forever; nothing does that, but it sure can improve the life of all those who include it in their lives.

Our bodies are made up of two basic components – lean body mass (LBM) which encompasses muscle tissue, bones, skin, heart and other organs and is the part of you that is most alive. The other component making up our body is fat.

How your body functions is to a great extent determined by its ratio of lean body mass to fat which is a very important factor in your general health and wellbeing. When for any reason, such as being inactive or sedentary, you shed lean muscle tissue your energy, your ability to fight disease, your personal appearance and the way your body performs is undermined.

This muscle tissue loss can be such a slow decrease over many years (or decades) that you may not even notice it. You awaken in midlife to find your body has lost a great deal of its tone and is flabby, and that you suffer from chronic fatigue. Unless you take an active role and do something about it the problem will only get worse.

Muscle is the key to changing your body. While fat gives your body shape, muscle is what gives you the shape you actually WANT! Strength training exercise not only tones your muscles, tightens up loose skin and boosts your endurance, but can help you lose weight and get in shape faster than any other form of exercise. It’s hard to look young without good muscle tone. The shapely, well-defined bodies we covet and desire simply aren’t attainable without it.

Men and women of all ages and walks of life are beginning to catch on to the enormous health benefits of having more lean body mass, including lower blood pressure and greater bone density. More lean body mass also increases the metabolism allowing your body to burn more calories and fat on a daily basis. In a nut shell, muscle is youth!

We are all looking to turn back, or at least slow down, the clock, to feel young and function youthfully regardless of our actual age. Building and maintaining strong muscles is one of the most effective ways to do so. And the formula for strong muscles couldn’t be simpler: a strength training program will allow you to dip into the Fountain of Youth.

You can become trim and fit, reduce the risk of chronic disease, relieve fatigue and anxiety and regain the youthful enthusiasm and energy you need to live your life to the fullest every single day. And as the Fountain of Youth promised, you will not only feel younger you will also look younger.

An accurate indicator of having a good fitness and strength level can be measured by the amount of energy we have. To fit everything into our busy lifestyles we need high energy levels. When we have loads of energy we tend to be happier and more enthusiastic, more motivated to be active and in turn can enjoy an enhanced quality of life.

Constantly being tired and having low energy levels can lead to apathy and the blues, which in not favorable to getting the most out of life.

What if you have no energy to exercise? Without exercise you will have no energy causing a vicious cycle. But breaking the cycle with a proper balanced exercise program is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself.

Exercise is more effective at giving an energy boost than even prescription stimulants. It has been proven time and again that regular exercise increases your energy, vitality, mood and your whole outlook on life. As strange as it seems, exercise will actually give you energy rather than take it away.

The human body when it’s in motion has to produce energy through various metabolic processes. When we’re not in motion, those processes simply slow down. Exercise contributes to higher energy levels by increasing oxygen flow to the brain which thrives on oxygen. As your heartbeat increases with a vigorous workout, more blood surges through the brain; more oxygen gets absorbed by your brain cells, which helps relieve fatigue. Also boosted are the body’s feel good chemicals, the endorphins and you feel more mentally alert, energetic and have an overall happier disposition.

The number one way to boost your energy levels is to perform strength training exercise. This will get you stronger which in turn will increase your metabolism (this is the rate your body burns fuel). This increase in your metabolism is the key to keep you feeling energized throughout the day. Your better conditioned muscles will make every task that much easier, regardless of body weight.

However, just as regular exercise creates an upward spiral of good spirits, loads of motivation and tons of energy, not getting any or enough exercise can toss you into a pit of low energy and little motivation. So what do you do when you’ve hit a slump, haven’t been active in a while and are having a hard time even scrounging up enough energy just to get out of bed in the morning?

Make your personal fitness a priority in your life, not only in getting started, but also in keeping it going. If you’ve got too much on your plate, it might be necessary to turn down offers to happy hour or dinners out, or less TV if it means having time to exercise. Be prepared to learn new skills to make your journey as easy as possible. Enlist the help of a fitness professional or trainer to help you get started and to have someone to check in with every few weeks to keep you on track.

Consistency is probably the most important part of your exercise program. The more consistent it is the more you will get out of it, and the more you will enjoy it. Improved strength and fitness, like life is a journey and all you have to do is take the first step. Your energy has got to be high on your priority list. If you have no energy, you will not be able to enjoy your life to the fullest. Making good choices right now will not only boost your energy, it will rejuvenate your life.

The old saying is when it comes to getting older; you’re as young as you feel. Well if you don’t exercise on a very regular and vigorous basis you won’t feel very young whatever your age. It is a shame that society accepts and even encourages a lack of activity among people as they get older.

We are told to “take it easy”, “slow down” and “to age gracefully”. This sounds a lot like “idly” doesn’t it? We start to practice getting old – start taking smaller steps, moving more slowly, taking time to get up out of a chair. We start to think “old thoughts” and “old thoughts” lead to “old people” behaviors because this is what we think society expects of us.

We see others slow down as they age so we believe its normal therefore, we slow down and “take it easy” too…and then proceed to fall apart, lose function, deteriorate, and decay. A human body not properly used will waste away into a frail, weak shell. It must be used or you are very definitely going to lose it.

Listen up – we do not have to experience the effects of aging as most people perceive it in our culture. We do not have to succumb to illness and disease and experience physical and mental decline. We get old and decrepit because we aren’t active enough and because we believe it’s normal to become old and decrepit.

It has been proven that more than 50 percent of the decline in functioning – weak muscles, stiff joints, low energy levels etc – is actually due to disuse and is not a normal consequence of age. The body is designed to last at least 100 years and is supposed to move well and function well at this age, but the chances of spotting a sprightly 100 year old are pretty remote.

The “disuse” syndrome makes you feel old, so you act old and this leads a downward spiral of becoming less and less active. The newest focus, however, is on protecting yourself against the many degenerative diseases and conditions that were once thought to be a natural part of aging.

A new body of research on physical activity and the aging process shows that a healthy lifestyle full of exercise can make you look and feel years younger. Studies have shown that exercise may be the closest known thing to a fountain of youth. Regular vigorous exercise combats the effects of aging by lowering blood pressure and cholesterol levels, stimulating circulation and reducing the risk of heart attack, heart disease and stroke. It strengthens bones, tones muscles, fosters weight loss, relieves stress, increases energy levels and boosts your mood, all of which helps you look and feel younger.

If you’re in a panic now because you’re 40, 50, or 60 or older and you haven’t been exercising, don’t worry because here’s the good news: it is NEVER too late; you don’t have to let this “disuse” syndrome effect you.

Enter strength training exercise and its benefits. Here is something that will improve muscle tone, increase flexibility, power, endurance, and help you lose unwanted body fat. Strength training is a challenge at the mental, spiritual, and physical levels and is the ultimate tonic for rejuvenating and revitalizing the body.

Get started right away and reap the priceless, youthful health benefits of a proper exercise program As you embark on your mission remember that you are investing in something near and dear to your own heart – your life and future of healthy living.
