Do you think today boot camp is more intense than older one?
For war veteran, Do you believe modern boot camp is too soft on recruit and not preparing them for war?

i think its just fine. the training today is by far the best.
nothing can truly prepare you for war.

intensity has nothing to do with learning combat tactics (depending on what your definition of this is) science has shown the best ways to train personnel.

what we get in training is crucial to combat reediness.

New age involves more mentality than brute force, the drill instructors are more reformed in language and stature. Old school involved alot of abuse compared to now

Today’s boot camp is far more intense. The young people are also more brave, more intelligent and more driven.

No more hitting of recruits in todays boot camp..

Todays warfare is nothing like it was in Vietnam, Korea, or the world wars..

There is no need to abuse recruits..You can get recruits to perform without having to strike them..The proof is in the results..I dont think the USMC weak nor has it been since the striking of recruits ended some 30 years ago..

The USMC simply changed with time, so society has changed and so has the USMC..This is a good sign.

No I dont think its soft..It gets the job done and is the toughest of all the branches.

I think they still make fine Marines. It’s different then when I went through, but I don’t think it’s easier (thnk The Crucible). I went through when they were transitioning from wall-to-wall counseling to IPT (Incentive Physical Training) so I got to experience both. The “nice thing about being “thumped” was it was over quick. IPT could drag on for minutes…long minutes.

So, I don’t think it’s soft and Marines are still Marines.

Well first, just how would anyone know ?

They would have had to go thru Boot twice in different time periods.

    ……………………………………………………………………………………………

But everyone always thinks thier Boot was harder than it is for the new people.

If you take it to the extremes.

    IE:

Those who went to Boot in the 90’s, saying it was harder than today.

Those who went to Boot in the 80’s, saying it was harder than the 90’s.

Those who went to Boot in the 70’s, saying it was harder than the 80’s.

Those who went to Boot in the 60’s, saying it was harder than the 80’s.

    ETC
    ……………………………………………………………………………………….

By the time you got back to the 1930’s,

Superman wouldn’t have been able to get thru Boot.

    ……………………………………………………………………………………………

Heres a comment from a British SAS Colonel, he made in the 1980’s.

Back in the 1950’s, we didn’t have problems finding men who were physically able to complete training, we had a hard time, finding men who were mentally smart enough to complete the training.

Today, we have no problem fining men smart enough to absorb the training, but we have to show them, that the human body, can do three times as much as they thought it could and absorb three times the punishment.

    ……………………………………………………………………………………..

We live in a different era than the past, hard physical work from sunup to sundown, is no longer needed.

So civilians aren’t physically as tough as they used to be, they have to be trained and shown what they are capable of.

But the new service members, are much smarter than those of the past, and more at ease with technology.

If you went back to the 1940’s, you would be hard pressed to find a Corporal, capable of learning how to operate a GPS.

    ……………………………………………………………………………………….

So Training has to change, to train the recruits you are getting today, not the recruits they had back 30 years ago.

Some things we now call common sense.

Like hydration, they used to think it made people tough and strong to deny them water breaks.

Now we know, it just made them weaker, they would have been far stronger, if they had been allowed water, because they would have been able to train longer.
